Amino Half of CAT (aka 1Chlora)
This is the Amino half of Chloramphenicol Acetyltransferase which is 156 base pairs long. The gene was split at amino acid 52 because when the structure of the gene was observed, this point was far from the active site and therefore will more than likely not affect the overall function and structure of the gene. The eventual goal of the splitting is to put a HixC site at the end of this half of CAT and then ligate it to the other half (the carboxy end) and still have the gene work normally i.e. be resistant to Chloramphenicol.
